Hi y’all. Yes The Hallelujah Girls (and boys) had their very first chance this Sunday to do some rehearsal work on the stage.  We have had a busy few days doing our usual intensive labour of love in building the set, the tiers and seating, preparing the props, setting lighting and sound.

Now we are ready to run the play on stage with our Technical and Dress rehearsals before we get to perform for you starting this Thursday the 27th.

Still some seats left for another evening of value-for-money live entertainment.

Yes the happy crew at Petuaria Players wish you a lovely Easter break. With less than two weeks to opening night the cast can be forgiven for tucking into Easter eggs to calm their nerves – although in truth any excuse for chocolate is a good excuse.  We are taking a few days off but Monday night will be back to full-on as we enter into our last rehearsals in the Forum.

Now we are working on the detail of the dialogue, delivery and body language and also running with the sounds and props – most of which have a distinctly  American flavour.

Along with that our play programme is in final draft and that goes for publication on Tuesday.  With the last play we moved forward at no expense and introduced colour programmes for the first time since our special 50th anniversary booklet in 2011.

And then next Friday we shall be starting a weekend of constructing the set.

No,  not a resurrection of Alistair Cooke’s programme (for those of a certain age who remember him, and no, I don’t mean the cricketer either.)   Actually I mean an email from America to be correct.

It was really nice to get a personal message this week from the authors of our next play wishing us well. Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten are three of the most popular and widely-produced playwrights in the United States. They specialise in writing laugh-out-loud comedies and creating vivid strong roles for women. Between them they have a long pedigree of success writing for American television and theatre. At this side of the pond Jamie Wooten is probably best known as a writer and producer for many seasons of the classic television series The Golden Girls.Our production, The Hallelujah Girls, shows this pedigree to the full with its warmth and humour.  It promises to be a great night out – but only if you have booked your tickets….

Yes, the poster for Hallelujah Girls is ready and at the printers.  Everything is coming together now although next week is what we call ‘books down’ and it brings fear to the actors who desperately set about cramming and trying to remember their lines as they attempt to fly solo without a script.  More on that next week!
