The Hallelujah Girls

THE HALLELUJAH GIRLS

by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope, Jamie Wooten

April 27, 28, 29  2017

Our third and final play of the season is a wonderful comedy from the USA.

Hilarity abounds when the feisty females of Eden Falls, Georgia, decide to shake up their lives. The action in this rollicking Southern States comedy takes place in SPA-DEE-DAH!, the abandoned church-turned-day-spa where this group of friends gathers every Friday afternoon. After the loss of a dear friend, the women realize time is precious, and if they’re going to change their lives and achieve their dreams, they have to get on it now! But Sugar Lee, their high-spirited, determined leader, has her hands full keeping the women motivated. By the time the women rally together to overcome these obstacles and launch their new, improved lives, you’ve got a side-splitting, joyful comedy that will make you laugh out loud and shout, Hallelujah!!

Produced by Richard Bateman

Cast: (order of appearance) Dianne Turner, Barbara Failey, Janet Drewery, Rachel Miller, Gill Collins, Nic Johnson, Rob Newton, Wyn Price.

And so to our second production of the season, as you may have seen in our previous post we are excited  that Gareth Tudor-Price has offered to assist in the staging of this play. Gareth is a freelance theatre director and producer and a longtime friend of the Petuaria Players.  He was artistic director at Hull Truck for nearly 10 years during which he commissioned, developed and directed this play for its first production in 2005.  Read more here.

As for the play:  It’s another peaceful Christmas in the Bailey household, but chestnuts aren’t roasting on an open fire. And, although a Silent Night would be welcome, all is not calm and all is certainly not bright.

Frank does not wish it could be Christmas every day – in fact, he’s dreading the arrival of his snobbish in-laws who only ever bring a single bottle of wine for the entire festivities. Throw in a couple of larger-than-life neighbours, let the drink flow merrily, and everything is set for a car-crash Christmas.

A hilarious antidote to your recent Christmas produced by Janet Drewery with artistic direction and input from Gareth Tudor Price.

Cast: (order of appearance) Steve Howland, Jayne Hewson, Rob Newton, Dianne Turner, Adam Craven, Tom Fryer, Wendy Fairburn, Rachel Miller.
