Poor old Albert.

It’s the early 2000s and Albert Nobbs has just retired after a fairly uneventful life and now looking grumpily towards an uneventful retirement being nagged, as he sees it, by his wife Connie. But then who wouldn’t nag the once funny man that has turned into this curmudgeonly moaner.

But Albert’s retirement is to take an unexpected turn with Connie’s untimely death. Albert Nobbs takes a look at their life together and how he might come to terms with her passing with the assistance of the ghostly return of Connie to help him along.

Gordon Steel, who also wrote ‘A Kick in the Baubles’, one of our most popular plays, has once again penned some wonderful characters that will have you laughing out loud and maybe generate the odd tear. It was first performed at Hull Truck in 2003.

Contains adult humour and a wee bit of strong language.

We are looking forward to putting this production on for you and it’s one not to miss.

Rehearsals for Albert Nobbs are now well under way. But who is Albert Nobbs? And what’s it all about? Read on…

”Touching, funny and heartwarming”

First performed at Hull Truck in 2003, this small cast play, by the same author of our popular production of ‘A Kick In The Baubles’, is often described as a “Blithe Spirit for the working class meets One Foot In The Grave”.  Albert Nobbs may make you cry but mostly make you laugh with its wonderful dialogue that is both painful and very funny.

Contains some adult themes, adult humour and a bit of strong language

After a life of hard graft, retirement isn’t all what the curmudgeonly Albert expected, bored and nagged by his wife Connie.  But Albert’s world is turned upside down with Connie’s sudden death and he struggles to find a reason to carry on and come to terms with her loss – until Connie returns as a ghost to set about organising a fulfilling retirement including some matchmaking…
