Mime Stars 2024

Sally Morland’s epic Mime Stars Nights are not strictly Petuaria Players events – but since she always manages to entice (some say con) many of our members (some kicking and screaming, others in oblivious naivety as to what lies ahead) into her shows then we should certainly report it here.

Sally’s first production was two years ago and raised money for the MacMillan and Dove House charities. Remembering our friend Jayne Hewson who passed away almost a year ago, this time the event was to raise funds for the Cardiology Unit that cared for her at Castle Hill Hospital.

Once again the stage was filled with famous stars from the world of music singing their hits (though in the spirit of honesty we must tell you that the stars were simply amazing lookalikes miming). The photos below will take your breath away as you appreciate the remarkable resemblance to the real stars.

The Greatest Showman finale

Everyone put a lot of time and effort into rehearsing the dance routines, learning the songs and getting the costumes – but not as much as Sally who organised, choreographed, cajoled and created costumes and props as well as being one of the cast so the success of the night is also a tribute to her efforts.

Sally presents a cheque for £1600 to the Castle Hill Cardiology Unit

Held at Croft Park, Little Weighton, the whole event raised £1600.

On stage we had Bananarama, St. Trinians, Annie Lennox, Madonna, Tina Turner, The Spice Girls, Abba, Cilla Black, Elton John and Kiki Dee, Lady GaGa and Cliff Richard, George Ezra and The Cheeky Girls interspersed with a selection of Waxing Lyrical monologues from Steve.

Scroll through the gallery below and remember – these are not the real stars, simply stunning resemblances to them. Be.. amazed…

Sally’s Charity Event raises over £5K!

In our recent posts we told you about a charity event being produced by one of our members, Sally Morland, that we were supporting. Her ‘Night With The Mime Stars’ was an evening of entertainment involving herself and volunteers miming well known songs and incorporating a few laughs.

The whole event, which took place at Blackburn’s Club in Brough on 9th February, raised an amazing total of £5193 thanks to a local business generously matching the amount raised on the night, a great reward for all Sally’s efforts in the preceding weeks. All the money will be split and donated to Macmillan Cancer Support and Dove House Hospice.

Naturally, she called on some of our members to contribute to the acts and get involved as well as her friends and family.

A mixture of lip-syncing mimes and a few ‘Waxing Lyricals’ formed a show that featured the Nuns from Sister Act, The Weather Girls, The Glee Cast, Elaine Paige & Barbara Dickson, The Human League, Cher, Aqua, Shania Twain, Smokie, Abba, Girls Aloud, Jerry Lee Lewis, Dolly Parton, Kenny Rogers, Kate Bush, The Village People, Right Said Fred, Tom Jones and the cast of Grease.

Have a look through the picture gallery below. As you will see the participants have an uncanny resemblance to the stars, virtually undistinguishable in ways that will amaze you. Possibly. 😉
