Happy New Year

Wishing you all a wonderful 2025 as we take the final curtain call on 2024.

It has certainly been an enjoyable one for us and the whole drama process acts as a nice distraction from all the distressing global events and concerns that occupy our minds these days! And we will continue with that ‘distraction’ into 2025 as The Petuaria Players starts its 64th season.

As for 2024 we went from an energetic farce in the first half of the year with Perfect Wedding, to an emotional comedy drama in Albert Nobbs in November and we now look forward to starting rehearsals in the new year for our May production of The Sweet Delilah Swim Club. We will, of course, bring you more on that soon via these pages.

Outside of the production work we do manage to meet up as a group for social events and this year was no exception. And in December our annual attempt to sing Xmas carols took place at the entrance in Morrisons in Brough thus ensuring that customers had no choice but to pass the band of happy yuletide vocalists. Despite this, Morrisons reported that sales were not down, customers did not divert and rush off to Sainsbury’s and we did raise money for Alzheimer’s UK.

Need New Year’s Resolutions? We can help!

How about making sure you book tickets for our May production? Want something more challenging? How about giving us some help to put on our shows – set building and decorating, or helping with refreshments at our play intervals? Or maybe you’ve always wanted to help backstage or even…. (gulp) perform on stage? Or you could simply resolve to help spread the word about us – by sharing our posts / emails to your friends and family, or sharing them on social media accounts – because everything helps us to keep providing memorable plays.

And here’s a selection of just some of them. (To see a more comprehensive list visit this page here.

Albert Nobbs – the photos

Before the year is out and before Santa comes and does his thing and before Albert Nobbs becomes a memory in our drama archives we shall share a selection of our play photos that were taken during dress rehearsals.

Yes this production was a big effort but we thoroughly enjoyed the demanding rehearsals, laughing all the way at Gordon Steel’s dialogue and hilarious scenes and then feeling the emotion during the dramatic sombre sections. But until you put all of that up on the stage in front of a live audience you cannot be sure if or when people will laugh or cry.

We should not have worried. Everyone loved it, even those who perhaps raised eyebrows at some of the language. The feedback after the show and since has been extremely positive and confirms that this was both a winning and rewarding choice.
