Janet Baynes

We are eager to announce our new August 2016-17 season but before we do just a few words about the sad passing of Janet Baynes earlier this month.

Sabrina Fair, 1961. Our very first production.

The Petuaria Players exist thanks to Janet, along with her husband Martyn and Frank Williams, who were the founders of this society and from 1961 to 2001 she was involved with 77 plays from our very first one Sabrina Fair to Trivial Pursuits. She acted in 58 plays and when not acting was busy as Producer or working backstage with props, costumes or décor.

Janet’s ambitious staging of Stepping Out in 2000, a play requiring both acting and tap dancing routines, was notably her most successful production performing to packed houses. This play marked a change in direction for our group, giving us the confidence to explore more ambitious productions and alternative set design.  A fitting epitaph.

Stepping Out was a milestone for the group.
